USA---Like peppermint lattes and mall Santas, the arrival of Ebenezer Scrooge is a sure sign that Christmas is around the corner. For many theaters, mounting a version of “A Christmas Carol,” Charles Dickens’s Victorian morality tale, is more than just a holiday tradition. It can also be a box office gold mine that helps underwrite the rest of the season. Just how ubiquitous is “A Christmas Carol” and its variations?
